Description:

A film about the inhumanity of war. Tailor John Bottom becomes a WWI English soldier.

The war tears him apart, robs him of his own hand, now replaced by the hand of a carpenter. The rebellious soul of the soldier finds no rest either on earth or in heaven.

The poem "John Bottom" was written in 1926 by Vl. Khodasevich in connection with the burial of the "unknown soldier" on November 11, 1920 at Westminster Abbey in London. The original poem can be read here. It was translated to English by Peter Daniels in 2013, published in Long Poems Magazine 11 and the book "Selected Poems of Vladislav Khodasevich, translated by Peter Daniels".

The film features music by Wolfgang Mozart and Igor Stravinsky.
