Description:

A cat animated with early computers and second-order differential equations.

In 1968, a group of soviet physicists and mathematicians led by N.Konstantinov created one of the first CG cartoons using BESM-4 computers. This simple clip of a walking cat was created by printing hundreds of cat shaped numerical patterns on paper and photographing them one at a time, a primitive form what would eventually become CGI. Viktor Minahin worked out the differential equations.

The video can also be watched and downloaded at archive.org.

Wordless except for the credits and the cat exclaiming "Meow!".
