Description:
Based on A. H. Tammsaare's short story, Riho Unt's puppet animation Having a Soul follows a young boy playing war with his toy soldiers. When his sister points out that unlike her beautiful doll, his soldiers die without a soul – with their eyes wide open like animals –, the boy begs Santa Claus to give them souls. This deeply philosophical and moving film explores the tragic loss of humanity and empathy required to survive and obey orders in times of war.
