Yuriy Pronin was the director and sole animator. The studio was shocked when he suddenly broke off his work on the film (while it was still at the line-test stage) and left secular life behind, spending the following years painting icons and restoring churches. Studio director Tatarskiy had to complete the film. It went on to be quite popular, even winning an award for "Best Debut" in a Egyptian film festival.
