Description:

A bear, monkey, donkey and billy goat decide to take away some bunnies' instruments and form their own quartet, but don't know how to play. Based on the fable by Ivan Krylov.

Commissioned by the Union of Soviet Societies for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries. Perhaps that is the reason that it is wordless.

The original poem and some English translations can be found here.

A much more famous animated adaptation of this story was made in Moscow in 1935 and remade in 1947.

The screenplay here feels very sparse to fill up a whole 10 minutes, so there are a lot of antics that seem to be there simply to fill time. I like the 1947 cartoon much better (though it, too, feels a bit overlong in the first half).
