Description:

In spring when weather in the north is especially changeable, the ice on the sea breaks and the Chukchi man Sarmiko is carried away on an ice floe... however, a little girl named Lena interferes.

A hard-to-categorize Northern tale - half adventure, half propaganda.

The original Russian screenplay was published in 1965, and can be read here.

VII ICF in Carlovy Vary (Czech Slavic Socialistic Republic), 1952 - for the best animation film.

There is also a version of this film online that has good image quality, but does NOT have the original sound (instead, it's a modern soundtrack with synthesized instruments).
