Description:

The story of Lilith, the woman of fire that God created before Eve. Based on the version written by Avetik Isahakyan in 1921.

Originally appearing as a female demon in Mesopotamian texts, Lilith also appeared in some early rabbinical and Christian texts.

An English translation of Isahakyan's work can be read here (PDF).

This was the debut film of Robert Saakyants, and a bit of a risky one, given the religious subject matter. It is also quite unlike the popular films he would become widely known for later on.

The two videos above (the first of which is of better quality) have Armenian texts and a Russian voice-over reading them (as well as a few lines near the end that do not seem to correspond to any texts on the screen). There may also have been a version released without the Russian voice-over.
