Description:
About a little girl who lost her way in the wood and entered a bear's house, cleaned and cooked for him, but outwitted him and returned home. Based on the Russian folk tale and the play by Georgiy Landau.
With this film, director Roman Kachanov decided to try something new:
In the film "Little Masha and the Bear" I conducted an experiment that was important for myself. The puppets were conceived and made without mouths, and the whole load of synchronicity fell on the gestures. They turned out to be quite expressive in the film. Here my experience of working with rotoscoping came in handy... It is curious that no one noticed the lack of mouths of the characters during the viewing. Thus, I realized that the main thing in an acted scene, in a dialogue, is the gesture.
- "Mydrost vymysla", 1983, p.207
The original film was at 24 frames per second. The first video above is at 25fps (how it was shown on television), while the second is close to 26fps (a little more sped up).
