Description:

A poor soldier finds a magic pack of playing cards. Based on the story by Boris Shergin.

Despite being made during the Perestroika era, in which there was little censorship, the cartoon was banned for 4 years and only premiered in 1992. The censors did not like that the name of the Tsar's homely daughter was shared by the USSR's First Lady and insisted that it be changed. But the director refused to change it, because it was the same as the name in the original story. Perhaps as a result, this was to be his last film for many years. The director was also the voice of the Tsar.

The first video above has a nicer image.
