Description:

Uncle Kirill gets wings as a New Year's gift and becomes so proud of them, that he starts to teach birds how to fly. But as it turns out, he knows very little about it himself.

The film was released both in Ukrainian and Russian versions. The first video above is the Ukrainian version (newly restored by the Dovzhenko Centre in 2023). The second video is the Russian version. The subtitles were originally created for the Russian version, but they should also work for the Ukrainian one.

I just noticed this was directed by the same guy behind Treasure Island and Adventures of Captain Wrongel.

I think the character design is a dead giveaway. :) Cherkasskiy was the only one who drew characters like that, as far as I know. He seems to have had surprisingly few imitators, given the popularity of his films.

This small document certainly helps all of us understand the work of Ukraїnian cinematographers. Including most of the famous products of studio Kyїvnaukfilm (now Ukranimafilm).

Thanks for the link! Interesting, though the text is necessarily short due to the Diafilm (in English, "filmstrip") format. Seems that there might be a part 2 as well, but nobody's scanned it yet.
