Description:
The daughter of Spring and Frost, the snow maiden (Snegurochka) has come of age and is sent to live with mortal men, in a tsardom where the sun god Yarilo is worshipped. Based on the 1873 play by Ostrovsky, the 1881 opera by Rimsky-Korsakov and Russian folklore.
The film's script is a mixture of the play's and the opera's, though it is also much shorter than both (the opera being about 3.5-hours long). Rotoscoping was used heavily in the animation, as was popular in the early 1950s in the USSR.
The first video above has better colour (especially in the darker parts of the image), but the second video has more of the right border visible.
