Description:

A little girl is given a magic flower that grants her seven wishes. Based on the story by Valentin Katayev.

The story shows the path of a child that grows from the merely selfish desire to receive gifts to understanding the true value of good deeds - that happiness lies not in material goods, but in the ability to help others.

The original story in Russian was written in 1940 and can be read here.

This script of this filmed version was written by the original author, Valentin Katayev. It prominently features Moscow architecture, including the monument to Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, the Mossovet building, as well as the spiral parachute tower - one of the main attractions of Gorky Park in the 1930-1940s.

The restoration above was released by Soyuzmultfilm in May, 2025.

Awards:
1949 - Czechoslovakia, Mariánské Lázně - IV Karlovy Vary International Film Festival - Best Film for Children

Another excellent adaptation of this tale was made by Roman Kachanov, director of "Cheburashka" and "Secret of the Third Planet": The Last Petal (1977). Unlike this one, it stays true to the ending of the original story and the girl does not get an extra magical flower at the end.
